We start by carefully selecting ethical, high grown, washed arabica coffees. These are then roasted individually in small batches, using a computerised profiler to keep things consistent. We then age the beans at least 1–2 days before they’re ready to go (most of our coffees are at their best 5–8 days after roasting). The range of coffee we offer varies according to the quality available throughout the year.
Our signature blend, great for espresso, stovetop & also delicious in the plunger.
Ethiopean Yirgacheffe
A sweet, spicy & fragrant coffee that lends itself well to all brew methods.
This rainforest alliance certified coffee is full bodied and complex with hints of butterscotch, caramel & chestnut. We roast this just past first crack for filter aficionados.
Swiss Water Decaf
This Swiss Water Processed Decaf (the good one) is roasted slightly darker for stovetop & espresso brew methods.
Eighthirty has two sites, our original roastery at 553 Karangahape Road and our mini roastery in the Ponsonby Produce Market at 4 Brown Street, Ponsonby. Our sites are designed with a minimal aesthetic so the focus remains on what’s really important: the quality of our product. You’ll also find our coffee in a bunch of great cafes across Auckland and Wellington.
As summer is upon us we’ve joined the Cold Press bandwagon and started brewing Single Origin “Iced Coffee”. Eighthirty cold press starts with batch roasted single origin coffee which is steeped overnight. This process allows the coffee solids to infuse while leaving behind any bitter/astringent elements. We then “press” the coffee through muslin and before hand-bottling we add a touch of vanilla, just the right amount of mexican agave and organic milk, and there it is. A fully natural, preservative-free, fresh roasted, cold coffee experience. Enjoy chilled.
Forget whipped cream and other coffee atrocities. Once you get past the initial impression that you’re drinking yesterdays plunger and take note of how it really tastes, we think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised (and refreshed). Available instore (usually).
Can’t wait for your flat white to go cold? Here’s one we prepared earlier. Kind of. Actually it’s quite different but just as delicious. Available instore (usually).
A great tasting coffee is just the start when it comes to wholesale supply. You’ll also be wanting equipment, training and technical support, among other things. If you’re looking for a coffee supplier that can offer all of this, as well as a real point of difference for your business, we can help. Email, tweet, or call. Whatever works, we’ll be in touch super quick.
We understand the importance of good coffee at work. But lets face it, the office brew can sometimes struggle to meet the increasing quality expectations of the team. With some basic info and support, we can devise a strategy to address coffee issues at your workplace.
For us, there’s lots of little things we like to do to help – like using organic milk, fair-trade organic & other ethically grown coffees, using fair-trade organic sugar, composting all our old coffee grounds, food scraps and takeaway cups. Yep takeaway cups. For some reason we’re one of the only coffee roasters in Auckland that exclusively use compostable takeaway cups & lids.
When looking at the damage plastic is doing to the health of our oceans, we think this is very important indeed. In addition to trying to eliminate our plastic & general waste, we’re also offsetting our fuel emissions with green fleet, delivering by bike wherever possible, & offsetting our other carbon emissions with gold standard carbon credits. But really, we’re just getting started.
