The Kabyiniro area is blessed with a tropical climate, abundant rainfall and high altitudes. Thus, making it is one of Rwanda’s most favourable areas for coffee development
In the past, farmers were mainly doing subsistence agriculture with the production of food crops. Later, farmers found that coffee is one of the top cash crops compared to other crops, and the geographical conditions in the area were suitable for growing coffee.
The coffee trees on farms in the Kabyiniro are planted in rows leaving spaces for growing grasses for organic mulching to increase soil fertility, minimise insects and occurrence of fungi. These good agricultural practices result in high production (10 tons/ha) and a better quality of harvested organic cherries.
