Founded by Jorge Vides In 1958, Finca La Bolsa Is a coffee plantation located In La Libertad, Huehuetenango. As a Doctor and Director of the National Hospital of Huehuetenango, his coffee farm was a true passion project. Jorge transformed a forest-covered land successfully cultivating multiple varietals.
Now, three generations later, Jorge’s grandson Renardo Ovalle is head of the production at Vides 58 coffee farms. Vides 58 plantations are passionate about their sustainability model based on three pillars: Social aspect, Agriculture and Environment.
These values carry through in their community outreach efforts. In 1980 Jorge founded an elementary school for the children of his workers and the surrounding community. Finca La Bolsa opened its facilities to Association Coffee Care in 2012. Together they have created projects which seek to reduce child labour and improve the quality of life for coffee pickers and their families.
The Trapiche Cooperative harvest its coffee by selectively hand-picking cherries which are de-pulped and fermented over a 24-hour period. They are then washed, classified by density on running channels and spread on the patio to dry over 15 days.
